Norton Internet Security 2008 Falls Short

The Norton Internet Security Suite has always been one of the higher rated software applications consumers could purchase. It is easy to install and comes with fairly good technical support. The one problem I have had with them is the fact that the software does not seem to integrate well with other programs and is a resource hog. The other problem I have is when you attempt to uninstall the application, there are problems left behind like no Internet connection and a computer that crashes. For these reasons alone I, for one have done without Norton for years.

With Norton Internet Security 2008, I experienced on more than one occasion a system slowdown associated with the LiveUpdate process. This was accompanied by even more frustration when I began to see paid services promoted within the technical support section after visiting that section searching for additional help not provided by the software itself.

My biggest problem has got to be what I mentioned above. If I purchase software and install it on my computer, then I equally would like to be able to uninstall it if I don’t want it on my computer system any longer. The software needs to be a clean uninstall. I hate software applications that completely take over my system then penalize me for uninstalling them. This is what it seems happens when I attempt to uninstall any Symantec Norton utility. Which is one of the reasons I switched to a different suite years ago.

MS Office for the Apple Computer Line

Earlier this year Microsoft released the latest software for the MAC - MS Office for Mac 2008 hit the market in early 2008 and was a huge success. It compliments the fact that Apple is utilizing the Intel processors, which was a very strategic move giving Microsoft Windows-based PC users an excuse to move over to the Apple computer line.

MS Office for MAC 2008 is one application that devoted Apple users have been waiting a long time for, mainly because MS Office has been the most powerful application suite available. If you have an Intel-based Mac, then you are ready to go with the application at full speed. The new Office comes full of interface enhancements which follow the footsteps of MS Office 2007 for the Windows version. This application includes a new ribbon-like tool bar, is more animated and more stylish than older versions.

Office head

MS Office 2008 includes Mac versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with the program. The “Home Edition” version excludes the Microsoft Exchange support and also the OS X Automator actions for work-flows. These options come in the standard version. There is also an edition known as “Special Media Edition” which adds the Microsoft Expression Media program for graphics asset management.

The Mac’s menu bar has access to all of the traditional menus. It also provides quick access to graphics, templates and other tools. You will surely find lots of improvements in performance compared to the prior versions.

There are some drawbacks application. it saves the work by default in new file formats and features do not match the likes of Office 2007 for Windows. But overall, I would say, definitely an application that is not to be missed.

In the coming posts we will explore the latest products that hit the software market in 2008. Anyways, I leave you with this video below on the latest Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac.

Bloatware Should Be Treated As A Virus

BloatwareHas anyone out there recently purchased a new computer? If you haven’t purchased a new system yet you are missing out on the whole bloatware ordeal - trust me, it’s a good thing! Bloatware is described as the software that the major manufacturers cram onto your brand new computer. Bloatware hogs crucial system resources that could be used for other applications that you install, or even the actual operating system for that matter. I refer to bloatware as “junkware”, as I believe that this additional software is truly useless and interferes with the consumer’s choice as to what they want installed on their computer. The unfortunate part of this whole thing is that some consumers (the less computer savvy ones) are clueless as to the harm this bloatware creates. The below scenario gives you an example of what I am talking about:

Shopping Cart Software

Shopping CartI’ve received several requests from Webmasters to discuss Shopping cart software. A shopping cart can provide a complete solution to the savvy entrepreneur. It allows one to integrate and sell products on a website utilizing ecommerce software, which in turn gives the customer a seamless purchasing experience. It works like this: A customer comes to your website, chooses an item and places that item into a shopping cart. When the customer is finished and ready to checkout, they are simply redirected to another screen where the shopping cart software calculates their purchase and totals the order by adding in shipping, handling, taxes, etc. Now, all of this is made simple for the customer, which it should be - customers don’t want to wait around for a page to load. Also, if your software is buggy and gives errors to the end user, I guarantee you will most definitely lose that customer! The right ecommerce software solution makes all the difference…
