Here’s an Open platform for Social application development
To the developers of social application out there, here’s good news. With a focus to foster innovation in an increasingly growing social web, Myspace, the social network site and Google Inc have recently announced the launch of OpenSocial, a set of API’s (Application Programming Interface) for the purpose of building social applications across the web.
The technology has made multiple social networks accessible under a common API. This has made distribution and development much easier and more efficient for developers than the past. OpenSocial is aimed at simplifying the process of social apps development. This can help developers build far reaching applications which users can enjoy unlike web apps or social networks.
Under this platform, more time can be spent on building a product rather than building it again for every social network. The result is, innovation is speeded up and it can bring in more social features to more places across the web. Web users can get more interesting and useful features faster. With more new possible features coming in, the open source community can help in evolving open social standards.
Three Java script and Gdata API’s can be accessed by developers in order to access social functions, a live developer sandbox on Orkut at Sandbox.Orkut.com. The websites can also access a tool to help OpenSocial enable their sites a forum for support topics in order to communicate with Google and other sites. Check code.google.com for a sample documentation and support group.
