Quick fixes for Windows-Part 4

“Right mouse button has commands like delete cut and copy. To copy a file, every time I need to open new Explorer window (or lose place in the current Explorer window) to use paste command that completes the operation. (I can also drag and drop from right to left folder-tree pane)”
Quick Fix: Coming to the point, let’s find a solution to complete the process. First off, invoke a prompt that asks for destination folder by adding commands such as ‘Copy to Folder’ and ‘Move to Folder’ to your right-click menu.
Now, In system restore try creating a registry backup by setting a new restore point. With Registry backup in place, next decision is to launch Notepad, then click Format menu. Uncheck ‘Word Wrap’ and then start typing these three lines.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\
ContextMenuHandlers\{C2FBB630-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\
ContextMenuHandlers\{C2FBB631-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}]
Don’t write anything else on the file. Make sure only these three lines exist. Now, save the file to a location like Desktop or some other place which looks convenient. Name the file as CopyToMove.reg (.reg extension must be included) and then exit Notepad. Then right click on the file and select Merge. Confirm any prompts you may receive.
What will be the result? What you see is, each time you right click a file, you will see two new commands added. ‘Copy to Folder’ and ‘Move to Folder’. You can choose any one of the commands to open the dialog box to select where your files should go.
Delete the .reg file you created. Well if you want to save it, then do so. In case if you decide later to remove these commands, then saving can be a good way to go, as it can be a guide to which registry keys to be deleted.
“Not sure how secure is my system, but one final thing I want to do is, pay some pc consultant who can make a thorough testing for me.”
Quick Fix: At this point, I would recommend you downloading the free Microsoft Baseline security analyzer which can perform the requested operation. What it basically does is, makes a complete check of your pc. Once the check is done, it will come up with the reports it gathered which will have links to descriptions of the scan, details of the result and more. This software can work with any version of Windows, right from 2000 on, except Vista which requires 2.1 beta. It also analyses other Microsoft products too. Download any one of the two. Either current version 2.0.1 or the beta 2.1 release. One you have downloaded, install the program and launch it. Then follow the prompts to analyze the system.
