Review Sunday-Apple MacBook Air:Thinnovation

Another Sunday, another review. As usual let’s see this week what’s hitting the desk. It’s the Apple Macbook Air unleashed. Apple rocked the world once again by introducing the globe’s thinnest notebook at the Macworld Expo held in San Francisco.

This product from Apple features a 13.3-inch LED-backlit screen and a full-size keyboard. It has a maximum height of 0.76 inch at its thickest point and 0.16 inch at its thinnest. The MacBook Air weighs around 3 pounds. The memory is 2GB along with 80GB standard hard drive and also to join them an 802.11n wireless connectivity, Intel GMA X3100 integrated graphics and more. The product costs around $1,799 and shipments are expected to start in a matter of two weeks.

The MacBook air is designed with world class technology. The keyboard has backlit locks which facilitate working in low light area. The product comes with built in light sensor technology which can automatically accommodate the keyboard and screen light level for ideal eyesight.

MacBook air misses out an optical drive, but users can go for an external DVD burner called as the MacBook Air super drive which is powered by the product’s USB port.

Moving on, the product’s battery supports up to 5 hours of run time with WiFi turned on. The battery is not user replaceable. If it has diminished it can be replaced by Apple at a cost of $129. One of the features I found about this product is that Macbook Air adopts iPhone multi touch screen technology. It basically recognizes touch movement. It is to be used at the trackpad level. The Macbook air not only looks thin, but the components within are also tiny.

The product is just slightly bigger than a CD case which fits into your travel bag and makes it very convenient while traveling.

Features:

  • 13.3-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen display with 1280×800 resolution.
  • 800 MHz front-side bus.
  • 80GB hard disk drive with Sudden Motion Sensor.
  • Micro-DVI port (includes Micro-DVI to VGA and Micro-DVI to DVI Adapters)
  • 45 Watt MagSafe Power Adapter.
  • built-in iSight video camera.
  • 1.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 4MB L2 cache.
  • 2GB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
  • Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100.
  • built-in AirPort Extreme 802.11n wireless networking and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR.
  • One USB 2.0 port.
  • One headphone port.
  • Multi-touch TrackPad with support for advanced multi-touch gestures including tap, scroll, pinch, rotate and swipe.

Overall a very fine product and the best of Apple till date. I should say Apple rocks!

    little storage
no ethernet with reliance on wireless
    no firewire
little heat dissipation leading to overcooking
brittle screen leading to care being taken while carrying
one, repeat one usb taken up by optical drive unless you link to another drive wirelessly which defeats the bloody object of the laptop
expensive toy from the ikea of technology
    way to go Jobs
