10 games to pick in 2008

2007 was a rocking year for the gaming industry with some of the greatest game releases hitting the market. After the departure of 2007, gamers have been wondering if the New Year would follow the footsteps of 2007. I personally look 2008 to be even bigger than 2007 in video gaming. Sure there are plenty of games to hit the market this year, but let’s see what the New Year has in store for us.

Resident Evil 5: (Xbox 360)

This game transforms the series by delivering an unbelievable level of detail and realism. Resident Evil 5 introduces the theme of escape as its core survival nature. In this game your life will be in danger and you need to strive very hard in order to complete the mission. Evil beings will charge at you as you go ahead and your pulse keeps racing at your heart devastating pace. The graphics are pretty amazing and this game for sure will take away fans to a whole new level.

Review Sunday-MLB ‘08:The Show

Welcome to another edition of Review Sunday. I apologize for writing this post a little late because of a party I had to attend last night.After coming back home late night I woke up a bit late. Alright, this week, I’ll review the game MLB 2008: The show. This game is going to be released in early 2008. The game is all about Baseball and for baseball fans, definitely the best to go. MLB 2008 is already considered the most authentic baseball game available with a more realistic baseball experience.

Boy gets triggered by a computer game

A campaign by the mother of a ten-year-old boy who suffered an epileptic fit triggered by a computer game has finally persuaded a leading manufacturer to change how it vets its products.

The boy’s mother rushed to his room when she heard him screaming. As she entered the room, she found him twitching uncontrollably. Tests reveal that it was caused by flashing lights on his Nintendo game console.

PS3 outsells Wii in Japan for the first time

Sony Playstation 3 overtook the Wii from Nintendo for the first time in Japan, thereby taking a vision that Sony will dominate in the global video market.

Playstation 3 which was launched a year ago sold about 183,217 PS3 consoles in Japan in November, thereby beating Wii sales which sold around 159,193 consoles according to a game magazine. The game industry was dominated by Sony for about a decade with previous editions of Playstations but had to lose its prestige to the Wii with its new technology of motion sensor in the control unit.

Sony lowers PS3 software kit price

Sony Corporation on Monday lowered the fees it was charging for a software development kit for the PS3 console in order to get more designers to do video games for the machine.

The company said that it would strengthen its backup support in order to make new games for the PS3. The console comes with a Blu-ray disc player and a processor, is Sony’s new product in years. Sales look no good for Sony because of high prices and lack of games.

Although PS2 dominated the gaming market, PS3 has had a hard time against rivals like Nintendo. The console has succeeded in getting players by offering games that use handheld device for the remote control.

Sony has sold about 5.5 million PS3 consoles world over, Sony’s spokesperson said. The console went on sale late last year in U.S and Japan.

PS3 has not been able to compete with Xbox. Microsoft has sold about 13 million Xbox 360 devices from the last two years. Xbox has also slashed it prices in Japan from ¥39,795 to ¥34,800.

Sony’s PS3 sales beat the Wii from Nintendo for the first time this month between Nov 5 to Nov 11, with 55,924 PS3 machines sold vs. 34,546 Wii’s. Sony’s chief executive said that last week sales in the U.S doubled after the price cut.

Happy Anniversary Xbox!

It’s the fifth anniversary of Xbox live. But it really makes us hard to believe that its been half a decade after this powerful gaming console was launched, and about half a decade ago we were going out of control on Death match, Moto GP etc.

Microsoft’s online service has gone a long way in half a decade. Xbox 360 claims to be the best gaming console the world has ever witnessed. It gave a hard time for its rivals and publishers to take things seriously for consoles.

On the fifth birthday of this gaming console I would list out some things which I believe are the greatest achievements. This is all about Xbox, yes it is, and I hate taking my readers back to the age old Moto GP anymore.

1. Online gaming:

Xbox Live is a console that is class of its own. Its features like online play are of particular interest among gamers over the internet. Developer support has made sure that majority of titles, feature game modes, and leaderboards, but the experience of online play has always been a different feel.

2. Game Fixes:

Microsoft has done a good thing by providing Xbox game updates. If there’s a problem of a game break, it swiftly gets fixed; thereby making things easy and downloading updates won’t make you wait longer than a minute.

3. Downloadable content:

With the coming of Xbox live, downloadable content got more attention. Downloads aren’t free for all and not everything is worth it. But things like multiplayer maps, crackdown expansion packs have been greatly demonstrated of how developers could inject life into their games over Xbox Live.

4. Voice Chatting:

Getting Live broadband was a controversy in 2002, with most plugging on dial up. But one of the benefits from the network was that each Xbox Live gamer could have a voice chat. Games like Halo and rainbow six have great interactivity and you don’t have to stop playing and then type messages to your group members.

5. Xbox Live:

Of all I must not forget to tell you that Xbox Live Arcade has been no doubt Xbox 360’s greatest online achievement. Releases got quickly sloped up to one or two each week and the quality too has seen a rise. Games like Quake Arena, Sensible World of Soccer have seen themselves on top. Some could see a price drop, but with full Xbox games appearing on Marketplace we could see a slit down the line.

5. Marketplace:

Xbox live Marketplace updates are fast and you can compare it with others like PS3 or Wii. It has been a leader right from day one. New game demos, videos and others have been added every week. Soon we will have days when we could download full-on Xbox games. Five years ago we were going behind downloadable demos and now we have them for granted.
